Do you ever find yourself feeling overwhelmed with everything that is circling around you? Like the thoughts won't stop and you find yourself second guessing everything? Are you like me who overthinks mostly everything?? I think about my situation and how it affects me, how it affects those around me, I think about what possible outcomes could come from one single decision and before I know it...I'm stuck and stressed.
According to the Anxiety and Depression Association of America (ADAA), 40 million Americans over the age of 18 are affected by anxiety — roughly 18 percent of the nation's population.
For some anxiety manifests as an emotionally distraught meltdown as if you are paralyzed from the feeling of being overwhelmed.
Our medical partners at Providence St. Joseph Health suggest journaling as a way to clear your head and keep your angst at bay.
Journaling allows you to explore your thoughts and weigh decisions between thoughts, feelings, and behaviors, and even buffer or reduce the effects of mental illness!
Yes, just like we used to in 8th grade when we'd write about our crushes and the latest drama at school. It helped us express ourselves back then...it it can help save us now. Try writing out all the things that you need to make decisions on. Write out what is causing you stress and worry, then go back and look at each item carefully. Take the time to find ways to eliminate or improve what is causing you stress. Take small steps, find simple solutions to these matters and you'll feel a weight come off of your shoulders !
Try it...you'll feel better for it!
Our partners at Well-Being Trust and Providence St Joseph Health have challenged us to a 21 Day Stress Management Challenge.
Check out tips from Day 1-3 below!
Day 1: Get Outside
Day 2: Laugh
Day 3: Meditation
