![]() We are living in an exciting time, especially when it comes to changes in the fields of science and technology. Things that were once considered only possible in the realms of science-fiction are now becoming true. From advances in cybernetics, where man is literally melding with machine, to the nearing possibility of human cloning, we are seeing innovations that will improve the way we live, extend our lifespan, and change the world for generations to come. While we don’t have a time machine to predict the future, we have scoured the internet for a look at some of the ideas that are set to innovate the world we live in. These are just a few of them. Virtual informationWe can currently access most of the information we need at the touch of our fingertips, with extensive screen time on our computers and smart devices. However, with innovations such as Google Glasses, we can now source information through visual pop-ups in our field of view. While these headsets are undeniably quite comfortable, some people are talking about the next step, with brain augmentations that won’t require an external source to give us the information we need. While you won’t be putting away your laptop just yet, imagine a world where you are naturally smarter with the aid of a simple computer chip tucked away in your brain. Internet for allThe founder of PayPal, Elon Musk, has big ideas when it comes to the internet. It will be some time before we get to the brain expanding developments mentioned above, but the advances he is proposing is something that may be possible in the next few years. Musk wants to send thousands of small satellites into orbit that will give everybody a high-speed wireless signal. Richard Branson is also looking into providing worldwide wi-fi, so we may finally be able to say goodbye to slow internet speeds and ever-rising broadband bills. ![]() Driverless trucks Driverless cars are now becoming a reality, and there is now the possibility of driverless trucks hitting our roads. This may not be exciting as the other innovations mentioned on this article, but it will change the face of industry. While companies are still advocating the need for a human passenger, the idea of a driverless truck is a practical one. Without a human driver, there will be less need for the truck to pull over, as computerized systems don’t need comfort breaks. Proposals are being made to send whole fleets of trucks across the country so, as a way to get cargo across the country faster, this is something that will undoubtedly aid the world of logistics. Advanced robotic companions Robotic companions are nothing new, but they are rather soulless. However, Google is looking to add a personality to robots, matching them to the owner's needs. Want to have a robot with a personality of a loved one, perhaps one who has sadly passed away? Want to have a companion who matches the personality of your favourite celebrity? Well, the patents for this technology have now been announced, though anybody with a fear of A.I. running amok may be a little wary of this one. Final word Will the world be a better place because of these new technologies? Time will tell, but one thing is sure. People will always continue to innovate. New breakthroughs are being made on a daily basis, and one day they may become as mainstream as the computer or smart screen you are looking at right now. Leave a Reply. |
