The smartphone is exactly what it claims to be: a smart phone. They are an extremely personal tool that we use every day, sometimes even without knowing, to sort out daily business and communicate with others.
But there’s more to smartphones than just the ability to check email, instant message, call and check social media on the go; there are a whole world of opportunities in the palm of your hand every time you pick up your phone, and you may not know about even half of them.
First of all, you can use it as vessel for all your media consumption needs: whether that be through streaming movies, TV shows or even sports straight through your phone or using the phone itself as a remote control in order to control your television. In regards to the latter, more and more smartphones are now available that come with an infrared port, meaning that they can replace your old TV remote and perform all the normal jobs and functions it does.
This is a smart use for a smartphone for a number of reasons: you no longer have to worry about batteries running out at the most inconsiderate time (just have to make sure your phone is charged), and you don’t have to bother searching down your couch every time you come to wanting to change the channel. And you can also stream your favourite flicks straight to your phone too. For instance, the MovieBox app makes a whole host of titles available to be watched on your smartphone, namely the iPhone and other iOS devices. Click here to download it onto your iPhone so that you can, if you like FRIENDS, get to watching whichever ‘The One’ you want, anytime, anywhere on your phone (just as long as you have a strong Internet connection). And it’s not just American sitcoms that are available, there are a plethora of other titles to choose from from all areas and all genres of media consumption. The fact that services such as MovieBox offer a platform such as this cuts down on the need to jailbreak your smartphone in order to remove any restriction that may have been imposed on your viewing habits, ultimately saving your phone from potential destruction and saving you from breaking the law.
As well as this, there are a whole host of other features on your smartphone that can be used to make your everyday life just a little easier every day. For instance, you can use the front facing camera to fix your hair, you can use the torch as a flashlight so that you never have to be caught in the dark again, you can scan barcodes to find the best deals and you can figure out the perfect amount to tip through apps such as Tip Calculator. All of these aspects and apps eradicate the need for you to carry a tool belt full of other things, and are most definitely a smart way to use a smartphone.
So, if your smartphone does all of this for you every day, the least you can do is buy it a nice case so that it is always protected!
