Moving shop can be one of the most stressful things that anyone can do - but let’s face it, if you’re a fellow tech geek, it’s even harder with all the equipment that you own.
Here are a few tips that might just help you next time you’re moving between houses.
First and foremost, you need to make sure that you stay organised. Start packing as early as you can and focus on things that you won’t need immediately like DVDs, clothes you don’t wear all the time and books. No matter how early you start, it probably won’t be early enough! Regarding your tech, remember that in the weeks before your move you’ll be incredibly busy so you might not get as much of a chance to use your games consoles as usual - bite the bullet and pack them away. Focus on one handheld console instead to keep you going and calm you down during the stress of the move. You should also make sure that you label all your boxes carefully so you know what’s in them.
One important tip is take photographs of all the wiring. You might think you’ll remember how to set everything up, but it might just be easier said than done - so it’s a good idea to have a visual representation of where each plug is supposed to go in which socket.
If you don’t have all that much time or if you aren’t the most organised person in the world, hiring movers is a great idea - let’s face it, you’re essentially paying to make sure that you feel less stressed and you have more time, so it’s more than worth it. Companies like My Bekins also specialize in office moves so they’ll be able to transport your personal technology carefully and easily.
Self-Pack Your Tech
Having said that, no matter how great your movers are, it’s a good idea to make sure that you pack your technology yourself. Label the box clearly so you know exactly what’s in each one so you can find your favorite things easily when you’re in your new place. Coil the wires carefully and put each one in a separate bag so that they don’t get tangled up. You could also tape them carefully into their coils so they don’t get unmanageable and messy during the move.
Packing your tech yourself will make you less anxious about the condition it’s going to be in when it gets to your new home, and will enable you to unpack it more easily because you’ll know exactly where it is.
