Verizon’s new 5G Experience Lab is officially open to the public in Downtown Los Angeles through Sunday, 12/9. The new Lab is located at 846 S. Los Angeles St and is open from 12pm to 8pm. The 5G Experience Lab introduced to the public first-to-market 5G technology using real future-use cases, including four impressive demonstrations that range from a stronger and faster home technology to a 4-dimensional cinematic trip to the moon. Los Angeles is one of the first 4 cities to access Verizon’s 5G broadband internet, known as 5G Home. Verizon is branding the Lab as an opportunity to “try before you buy,” by introducing visitors to first to market future use cases, including: Cinema and Entertainment. Take a ride in the Lunar Capsule via a Positron chair and VR goggles to hear, see, and feel Neil Armstrong’s first steps on the moon. Verizon, Positron, and RYOT aim to upgrade audience’s experiences by pioneering a fully immersive 4-D technology to both home entertainment and cinema. Sports. Verizon and Ericsson teamed up to create a demonstration of 5G VR Basketball, similar to the technology tested by 2 NBA All-Stars earlier this year. Visitors wear a VR blackout headset and use real basketballs to shoot hoops via live video streaming—you don’t even need to see the basket play. This technology has the potential to revolutionize sports by allowing players to train virtually, without even being in the same location as the rest of the team. Home Internet Service. Customers looking to move to a truly wire-free setup can sit in a mock living room and check out the 5G Home internet service in action. While sitting on a staged couch, visitors can see the streamlined modem and router and experience 5G technology streaming heavy content across a 4K TV and an array of other devices at impressive speeds with little latency. 5G Home will soon be available as a mainstream an alternative to current wired internet service that is typically provided by cable companies.
Gaming. Cloud gaming is officially next level. Instead of requiring a PC or console, the new 5G technology allows gamers to connect their smartphone to a video game controller and stream gaming content from the cloud up to 20 times the speed of broadband. 5G Home subscribers are eligible to receive exclusive perks including free service for the first three months (after that, Verizon customers with a qualifying smartphone plan will pay $50 per month for the service and non-Verizon Wireless customers will pay $70 per month). Customers will also receive YouTube TV free for the first three months and a complimentary Apple TV 4K or Google Chromecast Ultra device during installation.
