If ever find yourself bored during the day, you might want to explore a forgotten area of the web. Type something into Google, it can be anything and once you get to the results click through until you reach page one thousand and something. It is here that you will find sites that are never, frequented at all. While many of these sites will technically, be active, they see no traffic. There are literally millions of blogs like this online that have been set up and then abandoned. There might even be business sites that never made it off the ground.
You can go deeper than this too. You can actually use a special search engine to find sites that are no longer on the Google Index. These truly have been abandoned, and you might wonder what the point of this is?
Well, first, since these sites aren’t on the Google index, any content you find here is completely Copyscape proof. That means you can grab it, use it on your own site and hopefully, make it go viral. But perhaps the most important reason to do this is to explore why these sites failed.
If you are a business owner, you will no doubt be eager to make sure your business site stays profitable on the market for years. By looking at these failed relics, you might just be able to discover how things can go wrong. When you start to explore these dead zones, you will begin to notice certain patterns.
Have you ever tried to access one of your favorite blogs and instead ended up on a dead page? Usually, this is because the hosting service for the site has failed. It might be due to the fact that the owner hasn’t been paying the bill or it could be due to the fact that the hosting company is completely unreliable. That’s why it’s crucial that if you are running a business website, you use a reliable website hosting service provider. You’d be amazed how quickly customers give up on your site if they reach one of those pages one two many times.
Checkout the dead sites and you’ll often find that they have been using blackhat forms of SEO. There will be so many links that the content will be virtually unreadable. They’ll be plastered with ads and popups that make the site almost impossible to use and they might have keywords in completely random places. All these things are sure to earn a website owner a Google penalty and bring the ranking crashing down. Eventually, it just won’t rank at all.
A Little Dull
Of course, one of the worst things you can do online is...nothing interesting at all. If your site simply looks like a cookie cutter of other pages and the content isn’t that compelling or interesting, you’re not going to find the readers. Sure enough, your site will end up in the dead area online where websites go to die. That’s why it’s so important to do everything you can to make your site stand out and make an impression.
