If you’re considering fiber optics for some kind of business pursuit, then you may be interested in the high security which comes with fiber optics. Hackers are a big concern for any modern business, and fiber optics is often used to make the transfer of data even more secure. Because fiber optics don’t radiate signals, it makes it much harder for any cyber criminals to intercept transmissions which may be passing through. In the rare case that a breach does happen, it usually results in system failure. Hey, at least you know!
Fiber optics are general considered to be much more cost-effective too. There are certainly less overheads when compared to copper cable systems. Furthermore, the scrap value for copper has been on the rise for some time, so theft is always a risk for people using traditional wiring. Yes, the upfront costs for having fiber optics installed are pretty high. However, when you look at the long-term scalability, the investment is well worth it. Furthermore, as the demand for fiber optics grows, we’ll see a steady decrease in price.
However, it’s not a simple case of calling them up and agreeing to a tariff. Verizon Fios availability, for example, depends on where you are, whereas traditional cable services are pretty much universal.
