Put your brand on everything
A big brand can make people believe that you are in fact a big business. You can make your brand big by placing it everyone and shoving it in client’s faces. This is an essential part of marketing and can be done through standard ways such as leaflets and internet ads – but you can also get more creative. Leave business cards strategically in waiting rooms, branded bookmarks in libraries and branded pens accidentally at the bank. Subliminally, people locally will start to recognise your brand. You should also carry your brand around with you with car stickers and branded clothing. If your work online – make sure that your social media, email signature and website all show off your logo.
Keep busy online
Inactive social media and a website that hasn’t been updated in a while will make people believe you’re getting no business or that you’ve closed your doors entirely. Staying busy online with regular facebook updates, blog posts and calendar events on your website will make people believe business is also busy – even if it isn’t. Being active online is also key to attracting traffic, increasing your Google rankings and the effectiveness of social media ads.
Outsource a personal assistant to take calls
If you’re a one man company, but want to trick people into thinking you have an expansive workforce, why not outsource a personal assistant to take calls. Not only will this make clients believe you own an office and a secretary – it will also help to filter out unimportant phonecalls such as telesales, freeing up your time during the day to work on more pressing matters.
Use a virtual address
Your address can sometimes be a giveaway as to how big your business is. Several companies such as The Hoxton Mix virtual offices now allow you to use an address in the capital for postage. Not only can this make your business appear more glamorous, it also prevents clients from knowing your personal address if you work from home (averting any potential unwanted surprise visits).
Enter yourself for a local business award
Having an award to your name immediately gives you credibility. Why not try entering yourself for a local business award – even if you’re a runner-up it will be something to show off about on your website. There are countless business awards across the country, some of which may only have a few competing entrees.
