When business is running ten to the dozen everyone is busy. But, business owners need to make sure their employees aren’t too busy. Workplace fatigue can cause a lapse in productivity, so you need all of your employees to be fresh, full of energy and motivated to get the best work from them. You can’t avoid employees being tired because of home life, but there are a few things you can do in the workplace to make sure the job isn’t killing them.
Vary The Pace
A group of employees that are worked intensively for the entire day are going to burn out quickly. There have to be parts of the day where employees get to slow down the pace a bit. This doesn’t just include breaks for lunch and coffee. Start off the day firing on all cylinders to get your employees off to a good start, but allow them to slack a little throughout the middle of the day. This is a way of refreshing their energy. As late afternoon rolls in, pick up the pace again to meet deadlines.
If you work for yourself at home, the lines between work time and family time may get blurred easily. It’s important to establish boundaries and only cross them when absolutely necessary. It can be the same for employers and employees. When large jobs come in, it’s tempting to over work yourself to get the job done. If you or an employee is working too hard, it could be detrimental to health and the business if you work yourself into the ground.
Lead By Example
As an employer, it’s important to lead the way for your employees. They will always watch you and they will always have an opinion on how you’re working, even if they don’t say it to your face. If you’re working too hard, they may feel pressured into doing so themselves. You can learn about leadership by takingimc masters programs. When you own a business with employees, you have no choice but to lead.
