I first met Kate Marie Grinold Sigfusson back in 2008 a few months before she competed and WON the crown for Miss DC (she went on to place in the top 10 for Miss America).
At the time I was in grad school at Georgetown while Kate Marie was just finishing up her degree in International Affairs from the George Washington University.
Kate Marie was very active supporting DC area non-profits, so I wasn't at all surprised to hear that she recently launched a charitable business venture of her own.

How was the idea for Babies4Babies "born" ?
Kate Marie and her husband are expecting their first child this Spring. And as if being a first-time-mom isn't tough enough, Kate Marie, a true "Go-Getter," has also launched a new company Babies4Babies, a luxury baby brand that saves lives. For every product you purchase, two babies in need receive life-saving treatments.
"For me, the beginning of my journey into entrepreneurship was sparked when I realized that my for-profit business idea could help mothers around the world support the health of their newborns," she said.
"The Babies4Babies 'buy one, save two' social impact model empowers customers to give live-saving treatments to babies in need when they purchase beautiful baby blankets for the little one they love."
What inspired you to create your own business?

As a start-up with no marketing budget, Kate Marie said using social media was "critical" in the success of her business.
"We provided our followers a window into our process, from posting photos from the factory floor, to discussing our latest product prototypes (even when they failed), and inviting followers to help us select our final packaging and tags," she said.

"As a mother-to-be who happens to be running a baby brand (or is it the other way around?!), Instagram is my favorite app for sharing my wild journey through first time pregnancy and entrepreneurship," Kate Marie said.
