I think we can all think of times when we have worked for someone that we really enjoyed working for. We can probably all remember a time when we worked for someone we didn’t enjoy working for too! But what are the good and bad traits that an employer needs? If you have a team of people working for you, you need to be able to get the best out of them, by providing with a work environment that does help them to thrive. When they are in an environment that they are able to thrive in, then they are much more likely to stick working where they are. Your employees will be much more productive too. So it makes complete sense to spend some time looking into it. It can make a massive difference to your workforce. Here are a few ideas of what you can do.
Communication, or lack of it, can be the thing that breaks down good relationships. Your employees need to know what is expected of them and where they stand. You should keep the team informed about what is going on in the business on a wider scale, and share things like results, performance, and goals. When the team are involved with it all, it makes them much more accountable. They are likely to work harder when they feel that their work has a direct impact on the profitability of the business.
Understand Work and Life Balance
An employer that understand the need for a good work and life balance is instantly more attractive to potential employees than one that doesn’t. Obviously, certain things need to be done at certain times. But if there is more flexibility for employees it can be a big help. Getting them involved in away days or even family days is a good idea, as you can all get to know each other in a less formal environment.
Make Work More Fun
When someone enjoys coming to work, they are going to be a better job than someone that resents having to come in and do work. So try to create a fun environment. Think about the Google offices, for example. It doesn’t have to be on that scale, but something like a table tennis table in the break room or a games console could help create a more fun workplace. You could arrange conferences occasionally too, so your employees can spend time doing something different. Giving them some little conference supplies like notebooks and a personalised tote bag can make it more fun for them too. So you could click this link for info if you want to start looking into setting up conferences and gifting your employees with a few little bits and bobs. It can make a big difference to the workforce and they motivation.
When you’re in charge, it is important that you are respected and seen as that role. However, you don’t have to be seen as a ‘scary’ person. When you are more approachable, your employees will find it easier to talk to you and resolve problems. Meaning a more productive workforce in the long run.
