Sasha Talks Tech
startup stories, trends and digital lifestyle hacks
Editors note: Sasha Horne is an award-winning journalist turned digital media entrepreneur. A former TV news reporter, correspondent and CNN Fellow now travels the world helping startups, brands, and entrepreneurs craft their digital presence.
As a kid, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles was one of my favorite cartoons. Raphael was my favorite turtle (always the prankster), but my favorite character was April O'Neill, the reporter for Channel 6 News.
From taking my dad's camcorder into the front yard to do "live" news reports to my 6th grade communication arts class where we produced our own television shows, for as long as I can remember my goal in life was to work in news.
I just got back from one of the most exciting trips ever. Two weeks in Ireland for site-seeing and to judge the StartUp 100 competition at theDublin Tech Summit.
Read on for a recap of our trip and highlights from the summit!
Starting this St Patrick's Day You Can Watch All of My Ireland Videos on YouTube!
You would have thought that as the world exited what was one of the most severe recessions of modern times, that startups would have had a rough ride. But in the digital age, starting up can be done by literally anybody with an internet connection and a mobile phone.
What’s so exciting about technology in the modern world is how it creates huge winners. People who happen upon a good app or a product that consumers find useful do incredibly well for themselves in a way that simply wasn’t possible a couple of decades ago. Snapchat is probably the best example of this.
If you are a brand or a blogger and are looking to develop your brand and business, there are so many options these days. The fact that you already have an online presence is great. But there is certainly more that you can do to build up your audience. It can take some hard work and dedication, but it might be time to branch out into some different areas.
One area that is growing and growing in popularity is vlogging. Not only is it a great way to directly connect with your audience or customers, you can also earn money.
Vlogging can increase your followers and readership as well. With the likes of Facebook Live now too, video is where social media and marketing is at. So if you aren’t already doing it, why not? Here are a few ideas to get you started, if you’re not sure where to start.
I also loved the PHHHOTO booth. If you haven't downloaded the app yet you must! It's a lot of fun, plus you can share your #PHHHOTO's across all of your social media.

Had a blast at the Unity Concert after the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia hanging with Snoop Dogg. I was even more excited when he posted this post-interview pic on his Instagram!
In honor of 4/20 I talked the intersection of cannabis and the tech industry on the Forbes Podcast WELL, TECHNICALLY!

Happy Friday Friends!!!
Can you believe this is the LAST weekend of Summer 2014.
From my month-long adventure in Taipei, Taiwan to travelling to Ferguson, Missouri to cover the riots and protests this summer has been full of incredible career milestones.
I've also managed to squeeze in quite a bit of fun!
From countless beach days with my new friends in LA, hosting events all around southern California and my Vegas trip!! (see pix below!!)
It's been an amazing month in Taipei, but sadly my trip is coming to an end. This weekend I'll be heading back to LA to put all of my training to use as TomoNews' first reporter in the USA!
While most of the photos I've shared over the past several weeks have been from site seeing and celebrating, I've spent the majority of my time working at our world headquarters in the Neihu District of Taipei where I'm learning the writing style, the animation process and creating some of what I think is the coolest ever take on news!
If you are not familiar with TomoNews, it's a division of Next Media Animation, a company that is famous for creating animations from the most viral news stories.
The team of animators are all based here in Taipei. It's an amazingly well oiled machine that includes artists, motion capture actors and dozens of other people who make my words come to life through animation.
Below I've posted more photos and some of the reports I've done since I've been here. I'd love to hear your feedback! Tweet or Facbook me!
I have some news I wanted to share......
I’ve accepted a position as an LA-based reporter for Next Media Animation's TomoNews, where we animate the news. Yes, you read that correctly (watch a short vid below)
I'll be covering trending stories and viral news buzzing online.
Each week I'll take photos and shoot video. I'll write reports, send the footage to the animation team in Taipei and voila! A TomoNews report is born!
I spent the month of June in Taipei, Taiwan where the parent company, Next Media Animation, is headquartered.
I’m extremely excited to have found a position that will allow me to pursue my passion for both the news business with an indie news site. The channel already has more than 200,000 subscribers on Youtube.
Check it out below!

Thanks for your continued support!
