We’ve all probably dreamt about it at one point during our lives and for many of us, that dream is still very much alive. Wanting to become a top secret spy is understandable - it’s definitely the coolest career out there and who wouldn’t want to be as suave and charming at Mr Bond himself?
Now, actually getting into the CIA is a little more tricky than running around and hiding behind walls. The games made it look so easy but there’s definitely more to being a spy than sipping painstakingly made cocktails and crashing ridiculously expensive supercars. If you still feel you have what it takes to become a professional spy (and even if you don’t, it’s still crazy fun to pretend, right?) then do all of these things below to ensure you manage to complete your mission.
1. Learn to use technology like a spy
If you want to be a spy then you need to constantly be ahead of the game. You also need to be great at finding, analysing and even hiding data and information. Firstly you need to learn how to encrypt your data which isn’t actually too difficult with the help of a good encryption tool. This is also great for keeping your sensitive data like passwords and bank details safe and secure.
2. If you can’t fly a jet plane, do this instead
The majority of us unfortunately can’t claim to be world renowned pilots, but don’t let that stop you from accessing views you can only get when off the ground. After all, if you can’t beat ‘em, join ‘em. Get yourself a drone and learn how to fly that instead - it’s not easy but with plenty of practice (a spy needs to be wholly committed and most importantly, patient), you’ll be flying it all over the place in no time.
3. Night vision
Night vision monoculars aka night goggles. These are the things we dreamed of having as young kids and you might have even got a pair when you were younger. Of course, they were the kids version and didn’t allow you to see much more than your hand in front of you, but they did the job at the time.
But now you’re looking for the real deal. You want to be able to scour the world at night when no one else can see you but you can see them. Getting your hands on a pair of night vision optics will certainly have you well on your way to being the spy you’ve always dreamed of and if all else fails, at least you’ll be able to do some camping and surveillance when the sun is nowhere to be seen. 4. Become a badass as steganography
What on earth is that? Well, now is the time to start learning. Steganography is the skilful spy tactic used by all the best secret agents out there. It’s the ability to be able to hide something very important in plain sight. In other words, security through obscurity. Hiding things in places that seem a little too obvious is very much like using reverse psychology. If you have sensitive files that you don’t want found, try hiding them in a JPEG image. People looking for important information don’t tend to think of checking through pictures, especially if you have thousands of them.
